Description

The President acted bravely by removing Mervin Silva from his Deputy Minster post and canceling his SLFP membership in response to him tying a Samurdhi official to a tree, said Jagath Kumara, General Secretary of All Island Samurdhi – Development and Agricultural Research Production Assistants Society.

By taking action against Mervin Silva, the President has proved that even someone very close to him will be punished accordingly if he acts in such an irresponsible manner, he added at a press conference held today.

Jagath Kumara also claimed that the Samurdhi Officials never went against the government and their protests were directed at the Minister only. He added that they never withdrew from the program fighting Dengue and they will continue to support this cause.

He also stated that this is a good lesson to anyone who takes the law into their own hands and that Mervin will change his behaviour for the better, because of this incident.
